It is definitely a not-to-miss activity during your holidays. We created a nice daytrip to explore Jávea (or Xàbia in local dialect). Jávea consists of three different parts: the old town, the port and Arenal. Join us for a daytrip Jávea/ Xàbia.

Old town

We start in the old town of Jávea. The best place to park your car is Plaza de Constitución. From here you walk straight into the old town. The old town is the perfect place for wandering around and enjoying the beautiful antique town. Explore the picturesque small streets with beautiful townhouses, beautiful shops and outstanding restaurants.

Highlights to visit are the townhall, covered market and the eldest riurau of the region. Also you’ll find the remains of the antique city walls. The tourism office created an audioguide with all highlights in the old town. You find it here.

Do as the locals and make a stop at the covered market. It’s open every day beside Sunday for fresh vegetables, fish and meat and local delicacies. Enjoy a stop at Bar Mercat for a tapas and a drink. If you bought yourself some meat or fish, they’ll prepare it for you to your liking for a small price. The tapas at Bar Mercat are superb, so make sure you order some.

Continue your visit at the ethnological museum, check out a local exposition at Ca Lambert art centre or do some shopping. In the old town there are beautiful shops like Hinedito or the shops at Calle Principe de Asturias.

For lunch we would suggest to stay in the old town. There are so many good options, like Volta i Volta, Portitxol, Malabras, Cajita Azul, Donde Fabrizio or Chola for example. It will be hard to choose.

Port of Jávea

After lunch we continue at the port of Jávea. Leave the car at the large parking in the port itself or at Avenida de Augusta. To digest the lunch we go out for a walk along the stretched boulevard. The boulevard connects the port and Arenal. Prefer being lazy? Get your towel out at the beach and enjoy some sunshine.

If you opt for a walk, halfway the port and Arenal you’ll find some chiringuitos. Stop here for a coffee or so and walk back to the port. At that time shops will reopen, if you like shopping.

Above that the fishermen church Nuestra señora de Loreta is worth a visit. Built in the 60s it’s a remarkable piece of architecture. Or have a look at Casa del Cable, of which only the pillars of the portico gallery (“naia”) have been conserved; it has been refurbished as an Exhibit Hall.

In the port there are several shops worth a visit for clothes or interior design. Just stroll around and discover them all. Or have a drink at the Beach Club Rooftop, the Nomad hotel or Picoteo port.

Arenal

We continue at Arenal. This is a more commercial strip and especially in the late afternoons a popular hangout. Stroll at the boulevard, put your feet in the sea or let the children enjoy the playground at the beach.

Located straight at the boulevard, you’ll find plenty options for an aperitivo. Food is average in general, but the location is superb.

Around Jávea

If you prefer to see a bit more of Jávea’s surroundings, there are some nice routes to discover. We suggest the route of the lookout points (Ruta de los miradores), which you find here.

Or check out the beautiful coves around Jávea. These are the most popular attractions of the region and therefore really crowded in summertime. Make sure you arrive before the crowd comes in. At some of the coves, like Granadella, there’s a traffic restriction and shuttle buses drive up and down.
